WELCOME
We warmly welcome you to Morning Star Zen Sangha, a Living Vow Zen meditation group based in Newton and Waltham, MA. Join us in practicing this ancient Buddhist tradition that reveals your innate wisdom and compassion.
We meet Wednesday evenings at 7:30 PM at St. John's Episcopal Church, 297 Lowell Avenue, Newton, MA. Your first time attending, please arrive by 7:15 PM for a brief orientation.
Morning Star Zen will also announce via our email list regular practice opportunities in East Waltham. Please see our calendar for a more detailed schedule.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Our weekly practice includes a brief chanting service (liturgy books provided), two 25 minute still sitting periods, and walking meditation. On the first and third Wednesdays of the month, we have dharma talks and discussions. On the second and fourth, we have dokusan (individual meetings with the teacher). On fifth Wednesdays every 3 months, we have two silent sits, followed by tea. Each service at Morning Star ends with a closing circle for announcements, sharing, and socializing. You may also want to explore what you can expect under the "First Visit" tab above.
INCLUSIVITY
Morning Star Zen Sangha welcomes people of any cultural and religious background, race, socio-economic class, education, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical ability, and age. St. John's is wheelchair accessible. Our only expectation is that we sit in silence and stillness, together. If you have any questions, please email Morning Star Zen Sangha.
